While most people have their Sunday off, I get up early and head to work.
Saturdays usually keep me at my business until 1am and I usually go home, fall asleep around 2am, and get up at 8am to go back to work. Sundays are usually the hardest day for me because I’m so tired. I’m not 20 years old, this old lady needs her sleep! Sometimes I wish I was a young whipper snapper…. then I see young whipper snappers and I’m quickly reminded how I love NOT being that age. Although, when I’m really tired I sound like a life long smoker when I wake up (which I’ve never smoke anything in my life) and I move slower than usual. I knew it was going to be a rough day today, when I leaned over to pick up my shoes and found myself mumbling about my back and I sounded like Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice when he was mumbling around. Not good. I knew I was going to need a serious cup of coffee asap.
Keep in mind Sunday isn’t a hard working day. It’s just me sitting the front desk from open to close while I’m helping customers and welcoming people coming in to take classes. But.. I’m tired and this big cup of coffee I have isn’t kicking in yet.
Coffee Side note: My coffee today is from Higher Ground and it’s a Red Tux Latte. It’s sweet, heavily caffeinated, and almost too big. I usually order this one when I’m struggling staying awake here.
Can we talk about customer service? First off, I love talking to people. Talking to crowds or welcoming strangers isn’t an issue for me. If you would have asked me that 5 years ago… it would have been a different story.
Somewhere in my adulthood, I stopped talking to people. I was very quiet and only listened. It seemed to me that I really had nothing to say or anything I thought wasn’t important or worth it. In the past year, I’ve definitely found myself again and found my voice. Since opening the business and being more in the public, it’s been great to meet & talk to so many new people. Sometimes, it is downright scary.
We’ve dealt with everything from people who lean into a para-social forced interactions, to a stalker type situation that we had to talk to the cops, to creepers leaving us strange and cryptic messages, and having someone leaving negative reviews from multiple fakes accounts because they were asked not to vape in the museum or that we are friends with another business they didn’t like. The local police know us pretty well because of the amount of times we’ve had to call for various reasons. We now all have to be a bit more cautious about safety. I’ve been wanting to move for a bit more security. There is a place right behind my business that offers private parking, security service, and more. It’s pricey as hell, but I’m hoping business will pick up and I’ll be able to make enough to support the rent increase. Being more aware of our surroundings and just all around safety has been a little weird. I feel like we are all earning how to navigate through it all.
On the other hand… we have days like today. We’ve been only open for 2 hours and during that time, we had customers drive from Surprise, AZ to see us. There was a man who drove his teenage daughter here 45 min because she saw us on TikTok and she had to come in person. We had an elderly couple that are locals and they sat and chatted with me for about 20 minutes about their history here in town. Then I had a young couple walk in that are celebrating their year anniversary of dating and their first date was at our business…. they are back and look so happy. Not gonna lie, I cried when they told me. They looked so happy and knowing we were there when they were just meeting and nervous and now they are in love and you can tell they are the best of friends.. that fucking makes my heart happy so much. It is days like this that the crazy & negative things in the world are so small compared to the good. There IS a lot of good out there and I’m hopeful that it meets many of you when you need it. I’m manifesting good things for you all.
Mondays are my Sundays. So tonight I will do my usual cleaning while listening to podcasts. I’ll sleep in tomorrow, work out, I may even make some pumpkin gluten free pancakes ( shout out Trader Joe’s), and I’ve been thinking about clearing out a lot of things in my place and I would like to have everything as minimal as possible. Anyone else in a “let’s clear this shit out” kinda mood? I’m not sure if it’s because the world is so chaotic and I feel like it may get more difficult before it gets better.. which honestly is scary.. but I think I just need a clean slate and a blank canvas to start over. I don’t know.. I guess I will find out as I go.
Love you all have a great week!
